Abby Buchmiller: How Building Your Brand Around a Mission Can Set Your Business Apart

Building a strong brand that customers respond to is no easy task. This is something that serial entrepreneur Abby Buchmiller knows firsthand. She has founded and grown multiple businesses from the ground up, carefully shaping her brands to perfection. She believes that building your brand around a compelling mission or story just might be the way to set yourself apart in the market. “Choosing a mission that people can get behind is one of the best ways to bring devoted consumers to your brand,” she explains.

Telling Your Story and Standing Out

According to Buchmiller, it is not the strength of your story or mission that will make or break your brand: it’s your ability to tell it effectively. “Get really good at telling your brand’s story,” she advises. “A compelling and passion-filled brand that creates a sense of community is like rocket fuel for getting your concept off the ground and finding your prime audience.”

Buchmiller claims that stories can be especially effective or persuasive when the founder displays genuine passion for them. “Be very noisy about your passion!” she says. “As a founder, your audience will find it contagious!”

Buchmiller’s Road to Prosperity

Abby Buchmiller is an accomplished executive, entrepreneur, CEO coach, business consultant, and industry pioneer. With over fifteen years in the contracting and Skilled Trades industry, she has established herself as a respected thought leader in her field. In addition to her penchant for crafting goal-smashing strategies without compromising creativity or passion for the work, she is known for standing firm and upholding her values of integrity and honesty.

Only a handful of professionals can say they’ve come close to the remarkable business growth achieved under Buchmiller’s leadership:

  • She generated and managed over $180MM in annual revenue
  • Created a world-class dealer program serving over 180 sales dealers nationally
  • Expanded business model nationally to include 20 internal operational branches across 18 states in 4 years’ time
  • Created a strong and unique brand message including an industry-renowned “culture of empowerment,” which served as a recruiting behemoth

In addition to offering CEO coaching and business consulting services, Buchmiller is currently building her next passion brand, Labeled Design. Labeled Design is a streetwear brand on a mission to empower women by donating to important causes and creating a community of women dedicated to supporting one another and celebrating their #femininepower.

Overcoming Setbacks and Building Strong Brands

It hasn’t always been smooth sailing. Last year, Buchmiller experienced the painful loss of a company she co-founded. The company grew rapidly in its four years in business, and after experiencing ongoing challenges in raising the capital needed to fund its massive growth, the team decided to sell a majority stake in the company to an industry competitor whom they believed would serve their partners and customers best. Unfortunately, the company’s new managers filed the business into a chapter 7 bankruptcy within weeks of the transaction.

Buchmiller learned some devastating lessons on a professional and personal level, but she hopes to turn those painful lessons into a bright future for herself and others by sharing those lessons – positive and negative – with other young entrepreneurs.

Finding Success

Over the course of her career, Buchmiller has come to define success in her own way. As she describes it, “Success is when you align yourself with an opportunity that allows you to be in your zone of genius, share your passion and uniqueness with the world while also serving, empowering, and making the way for others to do the same.”

Put simply: success is living life on your own terms, staying true to your own story, and being a beacon to help others find themselves in the process. She believes that if you’re focusing first on the impact that you can make, influence and achievement will come as a natural byproduct. She shares a favorite quote from a tweet by Steve Harvey: “The real flex is how many people’s lives you can positively impact.”

A Bright Future for Abby Buchmiller

As Buchmiller shares her expertise with young entrepreneurs, she will continue to tap into her creative abilities and passion for brand-building. She hopes to create 6-10 successful new brands over the next five years; with her commitment to creativity and authenticity, she’s sure to achieve her goal.
