The medical field has become more critical now than it has ever been before. People are suffering from the effects of COVID-19 everyday and everyone in the medical field has been desperately trying to help all of them. Dr. Khushboo Parikh from Baton Rouge has been at the frontline, working to save kids who are being affected by the recent pandemic.
Dr. Khushboo specializes in Pediatric Cardiology which is a very niche field. It makes her only one of 2,500 pediatric cardiologists in the country. She has been associated with Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, since August of 2017. Khushboo, along with practicing pediatric cardiology, also serves as the faculty chair for recruitment and selection for the Pediatric Residency program at Louisiana State University. Her position is crucial in reviewing the medical student applications, interviewing candidates, formulating a rank order list for the residency program and participating in recruitment logistics/interview agenda. She is constantly working with faculty in other parts of the hospital to improve the logistics of the entire hospital.
One of her most crucial roles came recently due to the current pandemic. She has been working with children who have been infected with COVID-19 and are developing a condition called MIS-C (Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children). She was integral in formulating the protocol for investigation and management of this rare and new condition at Our Lady of Lake Children’s Hospital. Khushboo has done a lot for the medical field from multiple publications/journals, presentations, lectures, research studies, volunteering, mentorship, and lots of other selfless things that served to help patients receive better care. Khushboo inspires many other people with her story of how she was able to adapt to the United States after transferring from medical school in Mumbai, India. She encourages every medical student to spend time creating new ideas that benefit the ever-changing field of medicine. The journey she endured to get where she is has been a highly challenging one, both personally and professionally, but she has always found what she does rewarding. It is clear that Khushboo does all of this because of the satisfaction she gets from helping people. She is very happy working with children and plans to continue putting smiles on the kids’ faces in Baton Rouge.
