CRO Medical Designs Cutting Edge Medical Devices for Elite Military Units
MISSOULA, Montana – Commercial-stage medical device company, CRO Medical, has announced its plans to launch its new lightweight and portable suction device, the CRO Suction Unit, to improve trauma care in the military and civilian medical markets. The new device will be the smallest and the lightest device available on the market. It is currently in the final regulatory status with the FDA and is set to launch to military units by the middle of 2023. The device will be made available for direct sale or through various DLA Prime Vendor Contracts, including ECAT, DAPA, GSA, and FedMall.
CRO Medical is a defense contractor with multiple medical equipment contracts with USSOCOM, however, is moving into the civilian prehospital space with its lightweight medical technologies. The need for medics to be lighter, rapidly access patients, and provide a high standard of care has motivated the company to move towards the civilian prehospital medical market, including ambulance, fire, and search and rescue customers.
According to CRO Medical founder and CEO Jeff Boardman, a former U.S. Navy Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman and graduate of the Naval Special Operations Medical Institute at Ft. Bragg, military medical units specializing in immediate surgical intervention for wounded soldiers at the point of injury need smaller and lighter solutions. Prehospital suction is considered the standard of care for various common field procedures, including airway procedures, chest injury management, and damage control surgery. Boardman feels this technology will revolutionize how patients are treated in the field because it will meet the standard of care in the Clinical Practice Guidelines.
“Traditionally, medical innovations in trauma have come from the military and are later adopted by the civilian market,” says Jeff Boardman, Founder, and CEO of CRO Medical. “We feel the best entry into the market is to design products that capture future military medical requirements that will later be adopted by a broader audience. Our competitive advantage in the prehospital space is serving elite special operations medics and delivering those technology innovations to optimize the care of critically injured patients in the field. There are plenty of innovations needed in the prehospital market. Currently, the military is leading the effort to adapt medical equipment innovations to best practices in medical protocols.”
