Club Sweat Pioneers Group Elliptical Classes
Spin classes have been a thing for years. From early in the morning to late at night, trainers of every age, fitness level, and experience would gather together in a small disco-lit room for an hour of intensive bicycling, or “spinning”. Laura Sabia, founder of Club Sweat, took this small group session to a new level – one that hadn’t been heard of before.
“Instead of cycling, our visitors are trained with elliptical workouts,” states Sabia. The founder notes how, after trying spinning a couple of times, she had a unique vision for the widely-loved group training class genre. “I took the things I loved about spin classes – the music, the fast-paced environment, the small room packed with motivated individuals encouraging each other to push themselves even further,” mentions Sabia, “and I incorporated it into a low-impact elliptical function to replace the bicycles.”
The company offers three class types: Sweat 45, Sweat Express, and SCULPT. Sweat 45 is a 45-minute full-body, high-intensity, aerobic and strength-building workout. The interval-based class combines full-body strength training with high-intensity cardio bursts. Sweat Express takes Sweat 45 and condenses it into 30 minutes, taking place on Club Sweat’s proprietary cross-trainers. And SCULPT is what Sabia describes as, “less cardio and more strength.” The muscle-building and conditioning class emphasizes high reps and lightweight.
Sabia recounts her times in Club Sweat classes, claiming that the experiences are, “the best I’d ever had in an exercise class.” Sabia is proud of Club Sweat’s fresh and exciting environment. “You can’t find this class anywhere else in the world,” she states. “We’re proud to have been the instigators of a novel type of sweaty group activity.”
Beside founding Club Sweat, Sabia is also the proprietor of three Pure Barre studios in Westport, Darien, and Fairfield, CT, as well as the row house franchise in Westport. She earned her bachelor’s degree in advertising and public relations from the University of Tampa, where she served as vice president of the sorority Delta Gamma and the Greek honor society Order of Omega. Sabia then obtained her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of South Florida. She is a proud member of the Junior League of Greenwich and was recently honored as one of Fairfield County’s 40 under 40 recipients.
The female entrepreneur believes in inspiring and uplifting other women, as well as giving back to her community. “In the classes, we teach self-love, motivation, and encouragement of each other,” says Sabia. “Our instructors are professionals with years of experience helping others achieve their fitness goals.”
“We have also recently released our live stream app, which allows users to join in on the sessions from wherever they are in the world,” says the founder. The app is a uniquely-designed technology that enables Club Sweat to stream classes and deliver them in high quality to anyone anywhere. The company is excited to be able to help those wanting to join in on elliptical fun and strategy no matter where they are.
