“The Monkey,” which Perkins adapted from Stephen King’s 1980 short story, doesn’t build on the earlier film’s promise. On the contrary, it’s a ham-handed, lurchingly obvious mess, without the glimmer of human interest that even a sensationalist horror film needs.
