Potion Leverages AI to Drive Sales through Customized Videos

As generative AI technology is changing business, education, and even relationships, a lot of media attention is focused on their drawbacks. We wonder, for example, about the ethics of typing in a few commands and easily generating an essay that we would normally create ourselves. In the end, however, tech is tech. It’s what we choose to do with it that determines its impact, as demonstrated by Kanad Bahalkar, the co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Potion, which uses artificial intelligence to help sales teams create personalized videos in large quantities. The videos generated by Potion are indistinguishable from those that are manually created. We sat down with Kanad to get his thoughts on AI, including why he is using it as a force of good in industries across the United States.

“In my decade-long experience, I’ve never ceased to be amazed by how impactful AI and ML applications can really be,” Kanad says, “While we have all seen it used irresponsibly, in the right hands, it can solve the problems we have long struggled with. That is what we are doing at Potion: making it exponentially easier for people  to work with video and audio content easily and effectively.”

Before co-founding Potion, Kanad worked at the New England Journal of Medicine, Endurance International Group, Knit Health, and Google. At Knit Health, which used AI-based camera technology to noninvasively detect sleeping and breathing disorders, he focused on the architecture of all the reporting dashboards for clients and their doctors.

“In 2019-2020, deepfake technology was in its infancy. Around the same time, I noticed that salespeople had started using personalized videos in their outreach efforts,” Kanad recalls. “While videos had the potential to drive significant sales growth for a company, it came with a significant barrier: making videos, sometimes hundreds of them, was incredibly time consuming and, yes, tedious. That was the problem we decided to solve using generative AI, and we started building Potion.”

Kanad explains that this was where generative AI came into the picture. Potion could use these advancements to streamline and simplify the lives of sales teams. At the same time, the company’s team would make sure that they built the right safeguards so this technology could not be misused.

Kanad focused on creating a tool that would accomplish two goals: viewers of a video would be able to connect a face to a message and sales teams would be able to create personalized videos in large quantities. Simplicity would be central to the platform as well as a dashboard that was user friendly.

“Speed was crucial,” Kanad says. “The whole point was to make it much faster for sales teams to generate high-quality videos at  a large scale, so we designed Potion to be insanely easy to use. After recording just one video and entering the details that must be customized, users can sit back and let Potion’s AI create videos for them automatically. It is that easy.”

Today, Potion’s AI-videos are resulting in higher meeting bookings and more sales – as much as 5x higher in conversion rates. The results have been so promising that Potion has received seed investment from top venture funds, such as Streamlined and Unshackled. Potion’s team has partnered with companies like SAP, and their platform integrates with major sales tools, such as Outreach, Salesloft, and Hubspot.

“Potion is leading the way in generative AI in the video and audio space,” says Kanad. “We are showing that this technology can drive much needed improvements across industries and be used ethically and responsibly.
