Prio Builds Software to Make Work-Life Better

Derek Abram, CEO and founder of Prio builds software to improve work-life by offering online solutions, including free time tracking software, a time clock calculator, and invoicing software. Since Covid hit, remote work has been trending up, and there are more remote and hybrid workers than ever.

“Our team has worked together over several years on different projects and we all came together for this one because we felt that the app solved several problems,” says Derek. Our drive primarily comes from the desire to create beautiful and functional software, and we enjoy the building process as much as the end product.”

Creating Seamless Communication

Success for the company is connecting people worldwide and creating seamless communication across all business relationships. “Our short-term goals are to build tools that enhance our own work lives, and to find others in similar situations that can benefit from our work well,” Derek adds.

Prio results from years of lessons learned from running a service company. Each feature built into Prio resulted from difficulty or lost profit because of a lack of organization, visibility, or communication. Derek explains, “We knew there were thousands of companies across the globe that ran into the same issues, so we made our tools available to the world. Since then, we’ve continued to solve problems for our customers.”

Elevating the Remote Work Experience

Prioritizing which feature to build first was the first strategic challenge Prio faced. “There are thousands of tools and features we want to develop.  “As we grow, we continue to stay focused on the features with the highest impact and greatest ability to assimilate into our users’ existing workflows,” says Derek. “We take our design discipline seriously, determining the priority and context of the features presented to provide maximum benefit to workflows and to elevate our human experience of work.”

Successfully Launching Prio

Derek Abram’s software career started in finance. He launched several startups, including a task manager similar to Task Rabbit, a trading brokerage and platform, and a political-social network.

Each project presented its own challenges and didn’t take off for various reasons. “I recently found success in our software services company Miramar Technologies,” Abram explains. “From the elite team assembled there and the vast experience gained from years in the services industry, Prio was born.”

Derek continues, “A driving factor in my journey has been a reluctance to raise capital. This hesitancy was a primary factor in my previous business attempts and what led me to the SaaS industry. I also learned that revenue could sustain an app early in its life.

Prio now has the freedom to build and develop software in alignment with the team’s values rather than the economic constraints of a venture capital firm. Derek adds, “ An ecosystem of apps that offer productivity software built around relationships, not tasks.
