Dr. Sahil Gupta is Revolutionizing IVF & Fertility Services
SAN JOSE, California – Walking the line between being an entrepreneur and a physician can be difficult. Doctor and businessman Sahil Gupta, CCO and co-founder at Oma Robotics and Fertility, has been doing just that.
He is a visionary in the field of IVF and fertility services and left his astoundingly successful company Aveya in India to make IVF more affordable in the United States.
Prices for IVF have skyrocketed and are now over $20,000 dollars for one cycle in the United States and it usually takes more than two cycles of IVF to achieve success. Dr. Gupta has co-founded Oma Fertility, in conjunction with the best and brightest engineer to streamline a cutting-edge process where AI and robotics are integrated into the IVF process, enabling consistency in success rates and making IVF more accessible and affordable to the general population. This process allows for more successful treatments by eliminating human error, while reducing the cost to the consumer.
Dr. Gupta is an alumnus of the prestigious Harvard Business School and successfully completed his General Management Program. He earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Safdarjung Hospital in India.
OMA’s Services & Technology
Dr. Gupta took this experience and wanted to create an even more efficient and affordable way to deliver cutting-edge IVF and fertility treatments. He noticed a need for it in the United States, as the prices for these services had become so inaccessible that a lot of people had given up.
By teaming up with friends and engineers, Gurjeet Singh and Kiran Joshi, Oma Fertility was born. One of the company’s most advanced technologies is its Oma Sperm InSight™, which uses AI to isolate the most promising sperm cell to ensure the best chances of success with IVF. Oma also performs services such as frozen embryo transfer, egg freezing, and donor egg IVF. Praised for their compassion and care throughout the process, the clinic keeps consistent and clear communication with their patients. Oma opened its first fertility clinic in Santa Barbara in 2021 and now operates in 5 different cities across the country. This will allow accessible and affordable fertility care to be available for all.
Fertility Services for the General Public
Dr. Gupta is no stranger to making IVF and fertility treatments affordable for the general population. Dr. Sahil Gupta launched Aveya with the hope of bringing affordable reproductive medicine to the common people of India. Aveya holds a stable pregnancy rate of 60%, which is at par with the best clinics in the world. This program was extremely successful.
In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a process where eggs and sperm are combined outside of the uterus to create fertilized embryos. An embryologist typically visually inspects and selects individual sperm cells under a microscope for pairing with the egg.
Another process, called intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), can be used to insert the sperm cell directly into the egg. Following IVF, an embryo can be transferred to the womb to develop. IVF has been used for 30+ years and is the most common method of medically assisted pregnancy, with the highest success rates.
Humans have a biological drive to build families, but fertility rates have been dropping in recent years. As a result, a growing number of pregnancies are relying on IVF—and approximately 20% will rely on IVF over the next two decades. Even with advances in recent decades, the success rate for IVF is still around only 30% today. The typical IVF patient goes through three cycles to get pregnant before giving up. Even when successful, IVF is still an enormously draining process, physically and emotionally—especially for women. Reducing these stressors and improving the success rate is critical. Oma Fertility set out to improve the experience, and knew they could accomplish that through a novel AI tool to assist in IVF.cles were administered successfully year after year.
Balance Through Business and Medicine
Working as both a physician and an entrepreneur means toeing the line between profits and purpose. Dr. Gupta has treaded this line successfully and has combined affordability with cutting-edge advancements, giving patients the best chances of achieving pregnancy without side effects or hidden fees.
Oma Fertility was founded in 2020 by a team of engineers, AI experts, and fertility specialists who believe that combining AI and robotics in the lab and human-centered care in the clinic will make parenthood possible for more people.
